89 Flags on Hwy 89A

A Tribute of Honor, A Legacy of Service

To honor those who have served and to acknowledge the profound cost of freedom, SAVCO proudly flies the American Flag in celebration and remembrance during key national holidays throughout the year.

This powerful tradition, known as “89 Flags on 89A,” began in 2017 thanks to the dedication of longtime SAVCO member Ray Stueve, who worked in collaboration with ADOT, Sedona Parks & Recreation, and the City of Sedona to bring the vision to life.

Eight times each year, U.S. flags line Highway 89A in West Sedona—stretching from Dry Creek Road to Airport Road—serving as a moving tribute to veterans, active-duty military, and the enduring spirit of patriotism.

In 2020, the program expanded into Uptown Sedona, where the Kiwanis Club now manages an additional 28 flags, further enhancing this visual display of unity and gratitude. Special flags are also flown, including the POW/MIA flag and the First Responders flag, honoring all who serve.

2025 Flag Display Schedule

Flags are raised and retired on the following dates:

  • Armed Forces Day & Memorial Day: May 15 – May 27

  • Flag Day: June 12 – June 16

  • Independence Day: July 2 – July 8

  • National Day of Service: September 9 – September 15

  • First Responders Appreciation Day & Veterans Day: October 27 – November 12

Let’s keep this legacy flying strong.

Get Involved: Volunteer with Us

Each flag installation and takedown requires a team of 12 volunteers, and each shift takes approximately two hours. It’s a meaningful way to start your day—connecting with community members while honoring our nation’s heroes.

Whether you’re seeking community service, steps for the day, or just want to be part of something special, we’d love to have your help.
